April 2017

Happy belated Easter to everyone... it's tough to try to go over a month of news, as things are happening at break-neck speeds these days!

We've launched cruise missiles into Syria, dropped a MOAB in Afghanistan, and what could have been the most important event, North Korean's missile launch, proved to be a big failure.

Terrorists continue to do what they do, but the world knows the last 8 years of doing nothing are over, and those terrorist organizations now know they might be targeted where ever they may be hiding. Other adversaries have also seen that it's not business as usual any more, and that actions have consequences.

Domestically, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Neil M. Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch’s nomination was heavily backed by the NRA, both because of the pro-Second Amendment views expressed in his judicial writings and his originalist approach to jurisprudence.

Justice Antonin Scalia exemplified originalism in his landmark Heller opinion in 2008 that recognized the Second Amendment protects an individual right grounded in the principle of self-defense, and Gorsuch we hope will follow in his footsteps as he starts in his new role today.

In our little world, we've selected a winner for the Standard Manufacturing giveaway. We've also released the ARFCOM AR pistols that were on display at SHOT 2017 featuring the Maxim Defense pistol braces, and added nitrided BCGs to the store.

And in less than two weeks, the NRA Annual Meetings kick off in Atlanta!

2017 NRA Annual Meetings - April 27-30 in Atlanta, GA

President Donald Trump will speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual leadership forum in Atlanta later this month.

Trump’s secretary of the interior, Ryan Zinke is also expected to speak at the conference, as are other prominent Republicans, such as Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Sheriff David Clarke, Lt Col. Allen West and Sens. Ted Cruz, Luther Strange, David Perdue and Rob Portman.

Don't miss your opportunity to attend the NRA Annual Meeting!

West Virginia Congressman Introduces Important Pro-Gun Legislation

On Thursday, Rep. Evan Jenkins (R-WV) introduced the “Protecting the Second Amendment Act,” H.R. 1976. This legislation would amend the Gun Control Act (GCA) to permanently prohibit executive actions like the Southwestern Border states’ rifle sales reporting initiative launched under the Obama administration.

The bill states that no federal firearm licensee (FFL) could be subject to any generalized or ongoing reporting requirement based on the FFL’s geographic location or on sales of multiple long guns.

Firearms Purchases Still Trending Up

We’ve covered – and debunked – the claims that firearms sales are significantly declining under the Trump Administration. The latest FBI report on NICS checks for March 2017 should help put any lingering claims about the “Trump Slump” to bed.

The total number of NICS checks, nationwide, is up about 9% from February 2017 which was itself a nearly 10% increase over January 2017.

5 reasons to support National Reciprocity

1. Exercising a right shouldn’t be contingent upon what state you’re in.

This seems like it would be obvious. Sadly, it’s not. The Supreme Court affirmed in 2008 that Americans have a constitutionally-protected individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense. What’s more, no state can deny a Constitutional right. All national reciprocity means is that state governments must respect non-residents’ right to carry a firearm for self-defense to the same degree as residents of the state. And despite rumors to the contrary, national reciprocity legislation would not dictate to states how and where residents could carry concealed. Non-residents would also have to abide by state regulations governing behavior and places of carry.

Study on Noise Exposure Suggests Firearm Owners Would Benefit from Better Access to Suppressors

Gun owners should always make sure to use proper hearing protection when operating firearms.

Unfortunately, evidence from a recent study published in The Laryngoscope, a medical journal that specializes in head and neck disorders including otolaryngology, revealed that many shooters do not employ adequate hearing protection while exercising their Second Amendment rights. While some of the study’s findings are discouraging, the prevalence of excess noise exposure during the recreational use of firearms underscores the importance of pending legislation that would increase access to firearm suppressors.

Canadian Gun Controllers Adopt Misleading Tactic on Children and Firearms

The U.S. and Canada share much, not the least of which are a common colonial heritage and a robust appreciation for the outdoors. Unfortunately, it appears Canadian public health researchers and gun control advocates share a regrettable distinction with their U.S. counterparts; a willingness to use misleading statistics on childhood firearms-related injuries to advance an anti-gun agenda.
